The Right Horse Initiative, a program of the ASPCA, recently announced the 2021 recipients of The Right Horse Initiative’s Good People for Good Horses Awards. The Right Horse Initiative acknowledges that it takes a network of support to help each horse find a wonderful home and strongly believes that great work deserves to be celebrated. The second annual Good People for Good Horses Awards recognizes nine hardworking members of the equine community who dedicate their time and talents to helping horses in transition.
“This year’s Good People for Good Horses Awards recipients perfectly embody The Right Horse Initiative’s goals of increasing adoptions and elevating the welfare of all equines,” said Matt Bershadker, ASPCA President and CEO. “Their dedication is critical to ensuring horses in transition are supported and find lifesaving opportunities in new homes and careers within their communities.”
The winners are:
◆ Community Partner: Tannetta van Vlissingen, Maine ◆ Farrier: Trey Rogers, Texas ◆ Trainer: Jamie Jennings, Oklahoma ◆ Veterinarian (Western Region): Dr. Stacy Whitton, Colorado ◆ Veterinarian (Eastern Region): Dr. Shannon Reed, Ohio ◆ Veterinarian (Central Region): Dr. Trish Tersteeg, Texas ◆ Volunteer: Steve Casselman, California ◆ “Wild Card”: Judy and Gary Bush, Oklahoma
“The Good People for Good Horses Awards is a welcome opportunity to acknowledge the veterinarians, trainers, farriers, volunteers and community members working tirelessly to care for horses in need and helping them find loving homes,” said Christie Schulte Kappert, Program Director of The Right Horse Initiative. “Despite a challenging year, these individuals continue to step up for horses in transition and create incredible impact on the success of equine adoption efforts across the country.”

Through collaboration with over 70 industry and adoption partners, The Right Horse is able to innovate new and better adoption standards and practices.
