Adoptable Horse: Diesel, a 17-year-old 16.0hh pinto gelding Organization: Wild at Heart Horse Rescue, Lancaster, Calif.
This big, gorgeous guy was pretty intimidating to start off. He had zero ground manners and had been getting away with some extremely poor behavior in his previous home. His first training session at Wild at Heart was like watching two roosters fighting in the round pen. However, by his second training session, he quickly learned their method of longeing. In his third session, they were able to saddle, mount, walk, trot, and canter around the arena, during which they realized he also knows how to neck rein. In his fourth session, their trainer gave a lesson to a teenage student.
Diesel’s potential seems unlimited. He clearly has had great training in his past, and Wild at Heart is directing his energy to showcase what he knows. While they are still working on some of the issues on the ground, they will continue to explore his safe spot, which is under saddle.
He stood nicely for the farrier and is up to date on all shots and deworming. He loads calmly in the trailer.
They will be introducing Diesel to trail in the next few sessions and possibly jumps as well.
