Equestrian Lifestyle

People involved with horses experience the equestrian lifestyle, an all encompassing life that involves culture, style, relationships, stories, people, & more. For instance, some people experience equestrian lifestyle through educational opportunities or their career. Others dive into culture by reading horse books, buying horse art, shopping for horse things, watching horse movies or television shows, listening to equine-related podcasts, attending parties and events at horse shows and events, etc. Equestrian style can range from western style, hunter style, colorful horse and pony style for children, etc. Horse Illustrated's lifestyle articles also cover humor, horse stories, horse people, history, rider fitness, and travel destinations.

A common misconception about riding horses is that reins slow them down and the rider’s legs make them go. That would be true, if your horse responded like a car.The equivalent of lightening or removing your leg, easing pressure...
Sometimes animals form a special bond. My aunt’s Dalmatians run around with her horses all the time. Watching them, one would think they were the best of friends – and they’re also super cute. The baby goat, Bibi, in...
I recently competed in a show, and after I had proudly proclaimed to my friends that I’d never forgotten my course at a show, I forgot my course. Why? We took a turn tighter than I had planned and actually...
When it comes to horse shows, I’m a planner. In my mind, if I can get everything just right for the show, maybe my horse and I will go double clear, and he won’t spook at the scary show...
