Equestrian Lifestyle

People involved with horses experience the equestrian lifestyle, an all encompassing life that involves culture, style, relationships, stories, people, & more. For instance, some people experience equestrian lifestyle through educational opportunities or their career. Others dive into culture by reading horse books, buying horse art, shopping for horse things, watching horse movies or television shows, listening to equine-related podcasts, attending parties and events at horse shows and events, etc. Equestrian style can range from western style, hunter style, colorful horse and pony style for children, etc. Horse Illustrated's lifestyle articles also cover humor, horse stories, horse people, history, rider fitness, and travel destinations.

I got my first riding and horsemanship lessons with the Girl Scouts, whose motto, as you might know, is "Be Prepared." I still follow that good advice today-I'm usually the one with the Kleenex or safety pin handy when...

Once you've spent enough time riding and caring for horses, you start to become pretty competent and handling the daily problems around the barn. You know when a cut is just a scratch and when it requires a call...
"Thundering hooves." You've undoubtedly heard that phrase used to describe the sound of Thoroughbred racehorses galloping down the homestretch. But those dainty little equines probably sound like a light spring rain compared with the Shires competing at Lingfield Park...
June is my favorite time of year, and that is in no small part due to the daylight that stretches well into the evening. Here in the Horse Capital of the World, we're pretty far west in the Eastern...
What's cuter than a fuzzy foal? How about a fuzzy foal cuddling a giant teddy bear? Breeze the foal is an orphan and it's unknown what happened to his mum. But he's receiving the best care possible—and lots of...
A seller rides an American Saddlebred through the semi-annual sale at the Tattersalls auction pavilion in Lexington in 2011. The property was sold to developers later that year and is now the site of off-campus student housing. When I first...
A major injury-causing incident can shake a rider’s self-confidence to the core. But there are also other situations that can pose threats to equestrians’ poise, such as failing to master a new skill or lacking the assurance to correct...
