Equestrian Lifestyle

People involved with horses experience the equestrian lifestyle, an all encompassing life that involves culture, style, relationships, stories, people, & more. For instance, some people experience equestrian lifestyle through educational opportunities or their career. Others dive into culture by reading horse books, buying horse art, shopping for horse things, watching horse movies or television shows, listening to equine-related podcasts, attending parties and events at horse shows and events, etc. Equestrian style can range from western style, hunter style, colorful horse and pony style for children, etc. Horse Illustrated's lifestyle articles also cover humor, horse stories, horse people, history, rider fitness, and travel destinations.

Rider Fears

"When I was a kid, I used to bomb around the fields, bareback and helmetless, on my half-broke pony. I’d fall off a dozen times every ride and just laugh and get back on.” The archetype of the fearless kid...
We all know that urge. That itch. That if I don’t get some horsey time in soon, I’m going to go crazy sort of feeling. I often wonder where this need to get to the barn originates. I’ve decided that...
Most equestrians are not frequent stretchers. For me, this means after 20 years of saddle time, I have incredibly tight hips.I recently attended a yoga class in Houston, Texas at Revolution Studio. I felt the tension in my hips...
The lives of fictional characters in horse books may not always be realistic, but that’s part of the fun. Reading about the fantastic abilities of great riders in idealistic settings has inspired countless young readers to reach for the...
My gelding, Corazon, spent the majority of yesterday morning tied to the fence, which for reasons I’ll explain more in a moment has become his daily routine. One hind leg cocked in a resting position, he stands dozing in...
