I truly cannot relate to a fear of horses, because i love everything about them. However, I respect the fortitude it took for her to take the steps she did. Good job!!
Congrats Karisa! I did not ride for 31 years after a very bad fall..trying to re-start, but the older you get the more the ground hurts...I so want to be a confident rider and enjoy the ride, but I get so apprehensive the horse can spot me a mile away! I have ridden some really nice horses and my instructor is great, but I just can't seem to relax...I really enjoyed your story...I hope one day to find the *perfect* horse who can give me the confidence I want so bad...and yes, I have TWO Troxel helmets! :)
I just found out that I have to deal with a fear of riding after taking two falls, the second one pretty nasty, in the same night. Fortunately, I was wearing my helmet.
"Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway!" -- a great little book to read by Susan Jeffers. Do it scared! has become my life mantra.... Take a deep breath and take the plunge!
Thank you Karisa! That's a very interesting story! I love riding but I'm still tense when I get in the saddle. Once again, thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I have had a fear of horses since I was a child. My father slapped the pony I was on and he took off with me. I did not get tossed, but have been afraid ever since. I did take riding lessons a few years ago and enjoyed doing so, but I still don't feel comfortable around a horse; and I just love them. I am trying to overcome the fear by volunteering at a local stable. I just need to know how to calm my inner jitters and be more confident. I am not ready to ride yet, I just want to be able to be around them, groom them, and lead them from paddock to barn without wanting to bolt! Your story has given me great encouragement!
