I love this article and it is so true. I myself have rescued 7 horses (1 throughbred, 1 quarter horse, 2 Shetland/welsh ponies,1shetland, 1 Arabian, 1arabian/standardbred) from abused/neglected homes and the recovery process and retraining them can be very difficult. A few of the horses I have had to first spend time gaining weight and getting back in shape to even start getting them trained for what I wanted them to do. I have been successful in 3 of them and they are wonderful. Two ponies I have were to far gone with founder that they are only pasture ponies. For the other two, one started the training process last summer but was put on hold when he landed on me causing an open tib/fib fracture. The last one will be starting her training to ride this spring and can't wait to see how she turns out. They are all the light of my life and bring joy to me and all my lesson kids that get to ride them.
This is a great article for people like me because I am hoping to move soon and would to help a horse who just wants to be loved and cared for. I would love to add to my farm of 2 goats,4 chickens, and 1 horse. I'm sure my horse would love a pasture mate. I would love to adopt a horse knowing I have done my part and assured a horse in need that he will never be mistreated again.
