My horse is usually quiet on trails but last time she was very forward and could not keep her feet still. She was running up the back side of horse in front of us and trotting and jumping down hills and cantering up hills and moving fast around blind tight trail turns with obstacles in trails, etc. I literally had to hand on the bit to keep her at a walk. I was told to hold one rein up and one down to give her the option and that she would get tired of running sideways, etc I tried all of that nothing worked. I had her on a kimberwick but not on a hole just had reins attached loosely to larger ring should I have placed them on one of the two holes for more control or what??? she was not responding to bit unless I held reins less than one foot from bit then she listened. It was rather unpleasant trail ride. She never tired the whole time. any suggestions? normally she steps tiny down hills carefully and is pretty lazy and I have to use a crop to keep her up with other horses. turn out did nothing
Thanks for the advice! Do you have any suggestions for eliminating jigging while mounting and dismounting?
I just bought a horse that was used as a show horse and for team penning...I barrel race but just wanted a trail horse, I found out that he likes to Jigg for a while and then he actually tries to take off with me...I havent had to deal with this ever and I have always been told getting off teaches them they won, I don't want to get rid of him I want to learn how to correct this issue and I have tried these steps and it hasnt worked he starts throwing his head and bouncing up and down more. He has nearly put us in a moving car once already I need advice please!!
