I thought this article on the "8 hoof care myths" quite informative. I have always heard the one about dark hooves being stronger than lighter hooves and still do by some horse folks. I just let them go on about it because it can become quite a debate. I have always known different. Sometimes you cannot change the thoughts of others that are set in. Thank you Horse Channel for having all the horse information one could need to keep happy healthy horses.
To bad I didn't know about horse Illustrated Last Year.I love the article, but I had a little problem with it.Horses that are being ridden in the grass only, like the outside of their pasture, and are at turnout 24/7 have no need of a farrier. The owner needs to trim the feet every six weeks and the horse will be fine.Trust me.That's the way a horse is out in the wild. The mustangs don't have farriers,do they?NO!They do have stronger hooves, but breed does not matter. I think the reason people say a lot about light hooves is because you can see imperfections in them a lot easier.
Thanks so much for all your articles you put in here. Your making the world a better place for horses (a.k.a our best friends)
this is a good little info for brushing up on foot care.I wish someone would have said something about taking care of feet in wet muddy condtions, feet start getting a little soft should they have shoes or not?
Wow, this is a great article and I think everyone should read this! I'm printing this out and keeping it in my notebook! Thanks a bunch guys!
