I was wondering if you had any information on feeding a horse wheat bran? Is it really that good for a horse or is it not necessary?
What do you suggest feeding a horse with a body condition score of 4 who is on a 100% alfalfa diet. She's at a boarding facility and I would like to add something, like fat in combination with something like oats. What is your opinion?
Hi Everyone. I have two older horses 31 and 28. They both still trail ride at least once a week. My 31 year old can no longer chew hay and the 28 year old is on the verge. Their diet consists of alfalfa cubes, beet pulp and senior with a supplement called B-L Supply. We soak the alfalfa cubes and beet pulp prior to their feeding and then add a scoop of the senior and supplement which are not soaked. The formula is each receive a 1lb coffee can of each alfalfa cubes, beet pulp and senior feed. The supplement I use the directions on the tub. The vets are amazed at the condition of my horses and say they both should live well into their 40s. They also carry their weight through the winter with a good winter blanket on each.
Would love to see an article on feeding PSSM horses - there seems to more diagnosed every day. And I believe a low starch/low sugar is good for all horses.
