I recently fell off on a trail ride and broke my back. One thing you should always make sure to do is go with friends! Nver go alone and always take water, horse treats and a lead rope in case of an emergency.
I think it is great to give readers advise on trail riding. I trail ride and always look for better ways to keep my horses safe while still enjoy them. I want to add to the list of first aid equipment to have co-flex wrap. One of my horses got hurt on his neck in the mountains we were nowhere close to a vet, it was no question that he needed stitches. I took some ointment out cleaned the wound very good pulled the skin back together and proceded to wrap the horse's neck. I continued to watch him, and doctor the wound until we could get to a vet which was days later. The co-flex and ointment sealed the wound back shut and he now does not have a scar from it. He is also a Palamino which shows abrasion very easily. Thanks to the makers of co-flex and quick thinking I was able to save my horse.
This is a good article. The info in it is really useful. I would add "hoof pick" to the list. Sometimes rocks get wedged in between the frog and hoof wall and only a good hoof pick can get them out. And vet-rap. Hey, if anyone else adds something to the list, it'll take a pack horse just to lug all this stuff on a trail! :-)
also u might want to add hoove pick to the list of first aid kit so that u can pick out rocks and or mud that might be effecting the horse
Great info, super helpful...but you might break the horse's back by bringing everything on the supply list!! Lol!
conditioning is very important for all beings. think about running a marathon after a month lying in bed... that's how it is for a horse stuck in a barn all the time!
I definitely liked this article, i liked that they put the little first AID pack section at the top, that is really helpful.
