The Lexington Junior League Horse Show, first jewel of the American Saddlebred Triple Crown and billed as the largest outdoor Saddlebred competition in the world, began July 7 and runs the 12th in Kentucky’s historic Lexington Red Mile. The event highlights Saddlebreds, as well as Hackney, Harness, and Roadster ponies, Roadster horses (Standardbreds in show-ring mode), carriage driving and equitation (horsemanship) classes for young riders.
Two of the three reigning Saddlebred World’s Grand Champions, Grande Gil and CH Along Came A Spider, are facing the competition in this Triple Crown event. The other shows of the Triple Crown are the Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show in August, and the UPHA National Championship American Royal at Kansas City, in November.
Since 1937, the Junior League has raised $3.6 million for the Lexington and Central Kentucky community.
