Fast facts about the U.S. National Arabian Championship Horse Show

The U.S. National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship begins today at Expo Square in Tulsa, Okla. and runs through its grand finale on the evening of Saturday, October 29. Here are some facts about the show.

  • The 2011 edition of U.S. Nationals
marks the 45th anniversary of the show and the fourth year that it has been held in Tulsa.
  • U.S. Nationals is one of three places where an
Arabian or Half-Arabian can earn the title of U.S. National Champion. The other
two are youth nationals and sport horse nationals.
  • Several new classes have been added to the
Nationals schedule this year, including Reining Junior Horse, Country English
Pleasure Futurities, and several breeding halter classes
  • The entire show will be broadcast live online this
    year from www.arabianhorseglobal.com
  • The Total Arabian Interaction & Learning
(TAIL) event will be held again this year on October 25. TAIL is a scheduled
day when visitors can see behind-the-scenes at the show and meet Arabian horses
    up close.
  • More than 1700 horses from 45 states and Canadian
provinces will be at this year’s show.
  • Arabians are widely considered to be one of the
most versatile breeds, and the diverse range of classes, from cattle events to
driving to saddle seat, will be represented at U.S. Nationals. Dressage,
hunter/jumper and carriage driving classes were held at Sport Horse Nationals
    in September.
  • U.S. Nationals is known for the shopping almost as
much as the horses. More than 100 vendors will be on the grounds and open daily
    from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
