In an effort to increase volunteering at equine charities, the EQUUS Foundation has announced a new initiative called the CHAMPIONS program. The program asks participants to log at least 24 hours of volunteer service before Dec. 31 at a charity within the EQUUS Foundation’s carrots4acause network.
Participants who log at least 24 hours during 2012 will be entered in a drawing to win an EQUUS Foundation grant for the charity of their choice. There will be a minimum of $5,000 awarded in one or more grants by the Foundation.
Participants currently enrolled in high school, college or graduate school are eligible for Champion of Equine Service scholarships. In order to qualify for the scholarships, individuals must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, complete at least 24 hours of service during 2012, and submit an application by Feb. 15, 2013. Applicants will be judged by the number of volunteer hours served and the impact of that service on the community. At least five recipients will be awarded $1,000 scholarships each.
New benefits may be added as the program continues to develop.
