Don't underestimate the Standardbreds either. They make wonderful riding horses (after a little re-training) and are much mellower on the trails than TBs. Some are even just big puppy dogs. Fabulous dispositions.
I have owned horses all of my close to 46 yrs and was raised around horses. We had quarter, TB and Gaited horses. I work with a Vet. and am an RN, and my horses are family. I was just talking to a friend how these horses are treated as well as the racing greyhounds. I am very interested in adopting one of your horses. I bought a TB as a 3 yr old and he was off the track. He was a lover and loved to be handled. Please if you are interested, guide me in the right direction. I live about 4 hours away.
I bought two TB's straight from the track. It was a rough beginning until I understood the "whys" of things, and now they're great! I don't think I'd do it again myself, but rather buy one already retrained-very time consuming!
Someone wants to give away a Thoroughbred, give me a holler. I have room. In my younger days I was a jockey.
