She sounds just like a few horses I have taken in....and I too treasure the experience to learn more.
Thanks for the feedback and support! I always feel animals come to us for a reason. I haven't had one yet that didn't need some help who helped me too in the process. :)
Sorry but after 8 months of special feed, laminitis, biting, kicking, ear-pinning, vet bills and re-training and happiness is now only brushing, fly-spraying, haltering and putting on required soft boots...??? Riding is going to be dangerous or impossible, I'd venture to guess. Not such a good thing, IMO. You got taken for a ride already.
Im curious as to how you were able to ride her when you went to see her? Why were those behaviors not seen at first? Good luck and what a nice story!
I give this woman (and boyfriend and horse) alot of credit and praise! I rescued a Shire that was 1000 lbs under weight!!! Not easy, but i kept with him and his behaviors. Today he stands at 2075 lbs and rides and drives! Alot of people would give up after the first intentional misbehavior! Good Luck
Sounds like she may have lyme disease or had a bout of lyme disease in the past. It leaves horses--some, this disease affects different horses in different ways--sensitive to touch, hard to keep weight on, and prone to laminitis. If she was used as a trail horse in prior home, this is very possible. Glad you're sticking it out with her! I predict you will be richly rewarded, as you said, she's already given you a wealth of knowledge and experience.
