The horse I got was insane when you touched his feet and pulled the entire round pen 20 feet in a minute. The sellers did warn us a little bit but I never thought it would be that bad. He has greatly improved, but I’m never going that route again. I’m buying a colt that’s never been handled next time.

Read Monty Roberts book, it will help both of you tremendously! I wish you both well.

I have bought a few of those who had been “aced”. Boy was I in for a surprise when I got them home. However, all they needed was some TLC and understanding and ended up being good horses.

You were, undoubtedly, “taken for a ride”, and I’m so sorry to hear it. She is very lucky to have landed with someone who has the time, skills and resources to put her life back on track. Thank you for RESCUING her. As the president of a small nonprofit rescue, we take in a lot of these types of horses – where an unsuspecting buyer gets scammed and has a horse they cannot manage. Thank you for helping this one’s life get back on track, and I’m very glad you had the skills as well as resources and patience to do so for her.
As to those who stated she will always be dangerous, riding her is blah blah blah … you’ve taken a great path with her, and we have seen literally nearly a HUNDRED of these horses come around to be great citizens and exceptional partners in the right career. I hope your girl is able to find hers with you.

It leaves horses–some, this disease affects different horses in different ways–sensitive to touch, hard to keep weight on, and prone to laminitis. If she was used as a trail horse in prior home, this is very possible. Glad you’re sticking it out with her! I predict you will be richly rewarded, as you said, she’s already given you a wealth of knowledge and experience.

I rescued a Shire that was 1000 lbs under weight!!! Not easy, but i kept with him and his behaviors. Today he stands at 2075 lbs and rides and drives! Alot of people would give up after the first intentional misbehavior! Good Luck

Why were those behaviors not seen at first?
Good luck and what a nice story!
