There is a sad update to the story we brought you earlier this week about the birth of Zenyatta’s 2016 foal. The colt by War Front, who was born on the evening of April 10, passed away this morning due to complications of meconium aspiration syndrome. Zenyatta and the unnamed colt had been under the care of veterinarians at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
The loss is especially tough for Zenyatta’s fans as her last foal, a filly born in 2014, died at six months due to injuries sustained in a pasture accident. Zenyatta’s first two colts are currently in race training.
Zenyatta is in good health and has returned home to Lanes End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. She has been turned out with Vixana, another 12-year-old mare owned by Zenyatta’s owners, Ann and Jerry Moss.
So sorry for your loss, prayers for Zenyatta and her caregivers at Lanes End Farm.
