The 2017 Horses in Need photo project is open to all pro and amateur photographers

Every year, the Equine Photographers Network hosts its Horses in Need photojournalism project, and anyone with a camera and an interest in horses is invited to join in.

Participating photographers will choose a horse, an organization, or an individual that fits the theme of “horses in need.” Possible topics include horse rescue organizations, ex-racehorses awaiting new homes and careers, adoptable Mustangs, equine sanctuaries, et cetera.

The goal of the annual Horses in Need project is to shine the spotlight on horse rescue and related scenarios and the people and organizations who are working to help those horses. Completed projects will showcase, in a photojournalistic style, a story in 4-8 images with text as needed.

Participants are encouraged to seek out local stories to highlight in their photo projects. The EPN suggests getting in touch with the people affiliated with the horses or organization you plan to photograph and obtain releases from anyone appearing in your photos.

Projects must consist of between four and eight photographs uploaded to the EPN forums. The deadline to upload a project is January 15, 2018.

To find out more about the project and how to submit your story, visit the forum at www.equinephotographers.org.
