FEI World Para-Equestrian Dressage Championships Begin Today

The first World Para-Equestrian Dressage Championships under the governance of the Federation Equestre Internationale begin today at Hartpury College in Great Britain, and no less than 142 competitors spanning 22 nations are competing for the coveted title. The competition marks three firsts: This is the first time the FEI has governed the Championships; it’s the first time in 21 years that Great Britain has hosted a World Championship of any kind; and for the first time ever riders from China, Singapore and the Virgin Islands will compete in the Championships.

All the top para-equestrian dressage riders will be present, including Athens Paralympic Gold Medallists’ Lee Pearson and Debbie Criddle (Great Britain); Irene Slaettengren (Sweden); and Ann Cathrin Lubbe (Norway).

The riders are vying to become World Champions and looking to earn their qualifying place in next year’s Paralympic Games to be held in Hong Kong. An international able-bodied dressage (CDI3*), culminating in two gala evening’s on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July to include a Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special, will add to the spectacular occasion.

  • I think this is absolutely fabulous! Best of luck to all the competitors. They're all champions in my book for the courage and dedication it takes to not only over come there limitations but to successfully compete.
