Since its inception in 1987, The Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund has distributed approximately $4 million to over 1,800 injured riders (jockey’s and exercise riders) from every racetrack in North America. To help support this worthy cause, the 3rd Annual Jockey Team Penning competition fundraiser is being held again at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., on April 14. All proceeds from the event benefit the Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund.
As always, the event promises to be hilarious and entertaining as top jockeys and their teammates do their best at team penning. This year’s event features six-time all around Rodeo Cowboy, Larry Mahan serving as an Honorary Jockey–he will head up a team so at least one person knows what they’re doing! Comedian Tim Conway is once again the host and emcee for the evening. He
co-founded the Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund with Judy McCarron, wife of Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron. The fund was named for the late jockey, Don MacBeth, who rode Chief’s Crown in the 1985 classics, and who died of cancer in 1987.
Celebrity jockeys who have participated in previous years include Chris McCarron, Steve Cauthen, Pat Day, Angel Cordero, Jr., Jean Cruguet, Gary Stephens, Patty Cooksey, Robby Albarado and John Rotz.
Even if you can’t make it to the event, you can still help injured riders. Visit www.macbethfund.org to find out how.
