Racehorse Bronze Comes to AQHA Site

A larger-than-life-size bronze of multiple-champion racehorse Refrigerator with five-time AQHA champion jockey Kip Didericksen in the irons has been unveiled at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum. The bronze, sculpted by renowned equine artist Lisa Perry, joins The Dogwood Horse, The Finalist and Rugged Lark at the entrance to the AQHA facility in Amarillo, Texas.
   
The muscular horse was given the nickname of a pro football player of expansive girth, but Refrigerator the horse was a nimble athlete. Though he was initially a hard-to-handle 2-year-old, “Fridge” was described as fast as lightning and soon established himself as one of the pre-eminent racehorses of all time by breaking the $2 million earnings mark. He finished out of the money only three times in his 36-race career, which was from 1990-1995. Unfortunately, there aren’t any mini-fridges around: Refrigerator was a gelding.
