Rain and snow aren’t friendly to your horse’s salt and trace mineral blocks. Make sure that they’re placed in an area of your horse’s corral or paddock that is sheltered from wet weather. Otherwise, the bricks or blocks may literally melt away as they’re pelleted with raindrops or snowflakes. Aside from that, run-off from the dissolving salt or minerals may inadvertently add an annoying taste to any feed it might trickle across, causing your horse to avoid his munchies. Too much salt — for horse or human — is not a good thing.
Thanks for the great info! I will shelter mine from now on!
