Video of the Week: Sole Traders

Being a farrier isn’t exactly a glamorous job. Professional horse-shoers work outdoors in the blazing heat and bitter cold; get slobbered on, kicked and stepped on by their (equine) clients; and often must be on call during prime weekend and evening hours or risk losing valuable clients. No, it’s not glamorous, but horse owners know that a good farrier is an essential part of their horses’ lives and value that working relationship.

This week, we’re featuring a three-minute documentary by filmmaker Dean Saffron about a father-and-son team of farriers in Australia. Take some time to enjoy the cinemetography, then go thank your farrier, and try not to let your horse slobber on him next time.

  1. my horses and I love the farrier we have now had him for a few years now when he first came Apache who is known to test anyone that is working on him was leaning on the farrier I kept telling him to smack him on the belly once and he will stop leaning after of 30 minutes of leaning the farrier listened and Apache stopped leaning my farrier is also the only one that can get Radar to take wormer don’t know what I would do without him.

  2. We have an interesting relationship with our farrier. But I have to commend him for being one the most patient because he’s teaching me!
