I went to a show last year, entry fees totaled $75.00, I got reserve champion of my division and received a small sponge in the shape of what was supposed to be a horse head.
I ride both english & western. I have never received anything for winning first beyond ribbons except for plaques or maybe cash. I can't wait to start winning saddles & other stuff especially in western
lol BBQ untensils? That's a new one. At the last show I was at I got some kind of "natrual horse spray" I'm not sure what the point of it is becsuse it doesn't even say coat shine or healthy coat all I know is that it's natrual. lol. I've been using it as coat conditioner/detangler...but at least that's more useful than a mini tool set!
Barbecue utensils? For a JUMPER class?? You have got to be kidding me. I guess they might make sense as awards in 4-H beef showmanship classes (OK, that's a little dark, but at least it would have made some kind of sense), but unless you're expected to grill up the losers of the jump-off, it just makes no earthly sense to give that prize at a horse show. Show managers. Just when I think they can't be any less clueless on prizes, they surprise me.
Awww! Come on! Even at the tiny "showdeos" I go to, we get ribbons, and end of the year awards like jackets and trophies and bridles.... LOL. Barbeque utensils??? Wow. At least my hubby would've enjoyed them!
I do my state hunter jumper circuit, and the 1st place prizes are great! At the last show I went to, first place prizes were saddle pads, flyspray, and other nice stuff. if you won Champion of a division, you would get to choose between chaps, bridles, girths. it was really nice!
The best thing I ever won at a show for first place was a pair of diamond earrings in a ladies western pleasure class. The worst prize was ONE polo wrap. Another time I got a pair of really small bell boots. My horse is a tank, so all my friends just laughed at me.
