I live in Missouri where we have been raining and flooding for 3 years now. all I can say is " Cindy, welcome to my world" !!
It's difficult to explain to those who don't live here how bad 10 inches of rain in a week can be. A friend in Texas who used to live in Southern California equates it to 10 inches of rain in an hour in Texas. The roads, freeways and canyons flood; the natural adobe clay doesn't drain -- it just gets both amazingly slippery and sticky at the same time, so that your boots are caked with it as you go sliding on past the barn door -- and since most riding rings are uncovered, even if they're sand, you have giant lakes of standing water. So, I feel your pain, Cindy. At least our horses are lucky ones who have roofs over their heads. I know of some around me who have no shelter at all and spent last week soaking wet. :-(
AH YES, THE MUD! IT JUST DOESN'T EVER COME OFF YOUR BOOTS, EITHER. THE RAIN WOULDN'T BE SUCH A BIG DEAL IF WE GOT IT EVERY YEAR AND SIMPLY PLANNED FOR IT. BUT IN SO CAL, WE JUST AREN'T USED TO SO MUCH RAIN ALL AT ONCE. SHEESH, CAN'T IT AT LEAST BE SPREAD OUT THROUGH THE ENTIRE SEASON?
