The things we put up with !! I had a hay dunker for 21 years. I just fed him on the other side away from his " normal water" and supplied him with a "dunking bucket" for his hay and it worked great.
I knew a horse like that, grab a mouthful of hay in the waaaaayy back corner, walk to the front, dunk it in the water and then carry the mouthful to the back while losing all the water in his mouth(which dripped all across the stall as he walked) ate the mouthful and then proceded to do it all over again till all the hay was gone! But he's the greatest horse! He'd made me laugh everyday!!!
The cowboy horse sounds like a dog, getting all muddy and playing around. Wow that's probably really good exersize hauling water all summer!
Great article! I love watching the horses invent their own brand of fun. Thanks for sharing the laughs - funny for me sitting here because I don't have to clean up your horses' messes! :)
My mare like to take her grain and dump all of it in her water bucket then drink it like smoothie...pretty gross when she misses pieces but you can't help but laugh.
Absolutely hilarious. Cindy I love your blog and I am a loyal reader. I don't have any water troubles besides my Haflinger likes to put his hoof in the tub and splash a little bit.
HI! I ALWAYS ENJOY READING THE COMMENTS TO MY BLOG POSTS. I THINK THAT WALLY MIGHT ACTUALLY ENJOY SIPPING ON A CARROT-AND-PELLET "SMOOTHIE." AND HORSES DEFINITELY DO CREATE THEIR OWN FUN, WITH OR WITHOUT WATER. IF THEY'RE BORED, THEY FIND WAYS TO ENTERTAIN THEMSELVES.
I have a young horse that loves to play. Nearly every day she plows through the fence to get into the garden. She unplugs the water heater and pulls it out of the water tank. We also find her in the middle of the round bale feeder. The boarding farm owner now calls her Tankamo.
