I'll miss reading about Cowboy. He's such a cute young horse. I'm glad you found the right home for him.
You will keep us updated on Cowboy in his new home, right? He has been my favorite horse to read about.
Yesterday during my riding lesson my instructor and I were talking about horses as we usually do. She told me she acquired another horse over the weekend and his name is....Cowboy! You couldn't have found a better home for him than to have him spend his life with Karole. Several months ago I was telling her I found your column online & how much I love reading everything you have written. To my surprise she said she knew you and told me what a wonderful person you are to know and how much you love horses too. Since I was a child I've always loved horses and dreamed of learning to ride and now 56 yrs later I’m finally living my dream with a great instructor I might add. Better late than never! What a small world though, I’m reading your stories about Cowboy and Karole is my instructor who bought him. Anyway, I just wanted to say Thanks for all the great stories you have written and I can't wait for the new ones to come. Oh and I’m so happy to know that Cowboy is going to have a wonderful life forever!
I wish more people felt responsible for the well-being of their horses when faced with selling them, for whatever reason. Great story and great example for everyone who reads it. It's easy to buy a horse, but not so easy to take the steps to ensure they have a happy and safe future when circumstances change and they need a new home.
Foxfield is a great place for your horse to live. My daughter attended riding camp there eighteen years ago and still tells about it today.
THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS! ONE OF THE REASONS MY FAMILY AND I GOT OUT OF BREEDING HORSES AS A BUSINESS WAS BECAUSE WE DID FEEL RESPONSIBLE FOR EACH FOAL'S EXISTENCE, AND THEREFORE RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING THEM SUITABLE HOMES. THAT ISN'T ALWAYS POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY IN TODAY'S MARKET. CURRENTLY THERE ARE FAR TOO MANY HORSES AND NOT ENOUGH BUYERS WHO CAN AFFORD TO CARE FOR A HORSE PROPERLY. I AM CONFIDENT THAT COWBOY WILL GROW INTO A REMARKABLE HORSE NOW. KAROLE WILL LOOK AFTER HIM, THAT'S FOR SURE! AND YES, LAURIE, FOXFIELD REMAINS A WONDERFUL RIDING SCHOOL AND SUMMER HORSE CAMP, STILL EMBRACING THE TRADITION OF HANDS-ON HORSEMANSHIP AND HORSE CARE, WHICH SO MANY MODERN BARNS ARE LACKING.
