Welcome to Horse Illustrated’s weekly installment of the My Right Horse Adoptable Horse of the Week, offered in partnership with The Right Horse. Geneve is this week’s adoptable horse. Check back weekly for a new featured horse so you can find your #righthorse.
Horse: Geneve, a 15-year-old 14.2-hand gray Mustang mare in El Reno, Okla. Organization: ASPCA Regional Support CenterCourtesy ASPCA Regional Support Center
Geneve is here to prove that unicorns are real! She is a powerfully built, beautiful mare. She is kind-hearted and has proven to be a willing, quick learner. Geneve was recently surrendered with her herd mates and has had minimal handling over the past 10 years. Despite that, Geneve acts like she hasn’t missed a day and is lovely to handle on the ground. She leads, picks up her feet and is well behaved for the vet. Staff at the center do not believe Geneve has been started under saddle and will need an experienced horse person to introduce her to a rider and saddle, as well as a variety of new situations. With other horses, she tends to be near the top of the herd but is a benevolent leader and gets along well with others. While Geneve would benefit from some time with a professional to brush up on the basics, she also has the disposition that makes staff believe that she’d eventually be a wonderful amateur or children’s horse. If you’re looking for a unicorn, make sure to look at Geneve!
