My Right Horse Adoptable Horse of the Week: Velma — July 5, 2021

Welcome to Horse Illustrated’s weekly installment of the My Right Horse Adoptable Horse of the Week, offered in partnership with The Right Horse. Velma is this week’s adoptable horse. Check back weekly for a new featured horse so you can find your #righthorse.

Horse: Ima Texana Red (Velma), a 23-year-old 15.3-hand chestnut Appaloosa mare in Jones, Okla.
Organization: Nexus Equine

Velma is a stunning lady that loves hitting the trails! Since retiring from her career in cutting, she has been restarted and trained in trail riding. She would be best suited for an experienced intermediate or advanced rider as she sat idle in the pasture for several years. She is great with the farrier, loading and unloading, and loves to be groomed. Velma is a true gem once she settles in and knows her routine. She will keep you on your toes and make sure that you stay in the habit of working with her on the ground and on the trails. Velma is very willing and ready to learn and listen to her rider. She is currently on a diet of Nutrena Pro Force Senior, alfalfa, free feed high-quality bermuda hay and enjoys her salt block. All Nexus horses are current on Coggins, vaccines, dental work, farrier work, deworming and are microchipped.
