Happy Friday, everyone! Here’s what’s been happening in the horse world this week.
- Back in my day, I’m pretty sure there was no such thing as a “prom proposal.” But today, this is a thing that the kids do, and one kid charmed his boo with the help of a horse. Important: Do people still use the word “boo”?
- Here’s a nice article for the fans and supporters of police horses. It’s an interesting look at how Detroit’s mounted unit earns its keep in a cash-strapped city.
- Also for fans of police horses, this video of Officer Red enjoying a trip through a Krispy Kreme drive-thru in Tampa.
- It’s been a tough winter in the Northeast, and one therapeutic riding center in upstate New York is seeking help after the roof of its arena sustained snow damage.
- This spectacular fall by an amateur steeplechase jockey has been making the rounds this week. It really does look like he’s trying to dismount about a stride out from the jump (you can watch the full video here.) He got up and walked away without injury. Impressive!
- If you know someone in Maryland who is interested in horses but doesn’t know how to get started, tell them about the Horse Discovery Center program. I hope other states implement similar programs.
- Check out these photos of 93-year-old Prince Philip driving a four-in-hand. Very cool.
- An almost fully intact horse skeleton from 2,000 years ago was unearthed at a construction site in England. From the article: “The horse may have been just a workhorse for the quarries…or it might have been someone’s prize thoroughbred; we won’t know until tests are done.”
- The great racehorse Cigar, who passed away last fall at age 24, will be honored with a bronze sculpture at the Kentucky Horse Park. Cigar spent his long retirement greeting fans at the park’s Hall of Champions.

Our Mounted Patrol Horse “Red” trotted up to the Krispy Kreme Tampa Kennedy drive-thru window and ordered a jelly filled…

That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend!

Man, how on earth did that jockey get away without getting hurt?
Loved the article on Prince Philip still driving!
Notice how the racehorse just keeps on in a calm methodical pace. He doesn’t seem to notice he lost the jockey.
