The PhelpsSports.com Palm Beach Dressage Derby begins March 1 in Loxahatchee, Fla., with more than $20,000 in prize money and awards

Entries for the event are filled and several thousand spectators are expected over the course of the event. Admission and parking are free each day.

“We try to put on a great event for spectators and competitors alike,” says show manager Evelyn O’Sullivan.

The show includes classes for all levels of horses and riders, but the big spectator draws are the international competition and freestyle classes. The freestyles, which are set to music and individually choreographed, are crowd favorites.

Competitors entered in the event include international riders George Williams and Courtney King, and Olympians Ashley Holzer, Lars Petersen and Bent Jensen.

Best selling author Tami Hoag will be joined by some of the event’s other top riders to sign autographs. The signing will take place following the $4,500 Grand Prix Freestyle March 4.

  1. It’s good to hear that musical freestyle has become such a crowd favorite. Now, if we could only get more elements of the Spanish school back into dressage tests – such as airs above the ground — imagine what a crowd pleaser they would become!
