The only rescue organization you have listed for the State of Wyoming – Wyoming Horse Rescue is no longer in existence.
You may wish to add our organization – Fair Dinkum Farm Equine Rescue, we are a reputable, 501 (c) (3) equine rescue with two locations in Wyoming. Thank you

Excluding for-profit but equally wonderful equine rescues is kind of mean. Our rescue, Spirit of Hope Farm (http://spiritofhopefarm.tripod.com) is a for-profit equine shelter and rescue, though that is a serious misnomer since we SPENT (which means LOST in business terms) over 45k out of our own pocket last year on our rescue! To add to your list, Maine has several really good non-profit rescues including Open Gates Rescue in New Gloucester (www.opengatesequinerescue.org) and the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in Windham.
I work around 10 hrs/wk at Grace Foundation (thegracefoundation.com), a 501(c)(3) horse rescue in Northern California with around 150 horses plus countless other animals. I absolutely love it, and I am in the process of adopting an OTTB. Rescue horses really should be given more consideration in the minds of anyone looking for a new horse.
Hello,
I agree with your article. I volunteer for Appalachian Horse Help and Rescue located in Linden, PA. We see the problems with neglectful owners on a daily basis. Great info in your article as well. Most people say, a rescue horse, no way, there must be something wrong with it. We’ll just go and breed our own. Well there are too many horses now, why bring another one into the world when we need to find homes for the ones that are already here! We currently have 9 horses at our facility and everyone needs a good home, the places that had them just didn’t care about them.
Please visit our website, http://www.ahhr911.iwarp.com
We would be interested in being added to your list of horse rescues, we need to get the word out there and every little bit helps!
Thank you!

AHHR Volunteer
good info
I’d also like to say there is another WONDERFUL equine rescue organization called: People Helping Horses in Arlington, WA that should be up on this list. They are one of the only equine rescues in out county and do excelltent jobs with anything (or horse) that comes their way!
I’ve already donated to them and hope many more will too!
how can I get my rescue listed on your site?
http://saffyresanctuary.org located in California
The correct web address for the rescue Healing Hearts with Horses in Iowa is: http://healingheartswithhorses.info/Home.php.
Great place! I adopted my mare from there.
There is a very fine farm in Montgomery Texas that does horse lfe tot he fullest. Horses from all breeds and ages find safety and a farm like life rolling pastures, socialized living, future forever homes and then there is resident life for many. This nonprofit org. is all volunteer and has been in operation since 2003. A certified techical large animal rescue is one of their many areas of expertise and focus. As a volunteer at this special farm
I see peace and great Love of the horse expressed in so many ways. This farm needs to be listed if possible on your rescue lssting. How is this accomplished?
Many Thanks Debbie
I would recommend Horses With Hope, in Hope, Maine. Highly focused on re-training, and not just placing animals to make room for more. They are on facebook as Horses With Hope.
A good OTTB rescue in Texas is LOPE.
http://www.lopetx.org
We would like to be added to your list of Horse Rescues for the state of South Carolina. We have been operating since 2007 and have a very successful adoption rate. Big Oaks Rescue Farm can be found at http://www.bigoaksrescuefarm.org and on Facebook. Thank you for your consideration. Regards, Joe Mann
Please add the M Foundation to your list. Breed specific to the Manglarga Marchador horse. A start-up in 2014, but operational and successful.
http://www.marchadorfoundation.org.
Please add Equestrian Inc.to your list. We focus mainly on the OTTB and have been successful in adopting out these wonderful horses. Please follow us at facebook.com/equestrianinctampa.
Please add Circle A Home for Horses, Virginia Beach, VA. Operating on private funds since 2007, we are now 501(c)3.
http://www.ahome4horses.com or FB Circle A Home for Horses.
Please add L.E.A.R.N Horse rescue to your list. Theyare out of Megget, near Charleston SC. They have rehabilitated hundreds of horses the founder rescuing for 25 years out of pocket before starting the rescue in ’09 due to colleton county asking her to take in 33/47 horses rescued from a farm. They are donation based, and often purchase supplies out of pocket. Several children’s groups, schools and churches have come for camps to offer help and support.
Please add Hooves & Paws Rescue of the Heartland located at 27821 Hwy 31 in Glenwood, IA 51534 712-527-3721 Rescue/Shelter 712-355-3721 Cell (24) Hours
We rescue and rehabilitate abused, starved, neglected and unwanted Horses, Donkeys, Mules, Dog’s & Puppies. All animals are put up for adoption once they are healed inside & out. If for any reason they can’t be placed they will live out their life at our No-Kill Rescue/Shelter.
Please add Happy Hooves Horse Rescue Inc. In Madison County Florida to your list. We are a not for profit 501c3 corp. We are new to the industry but have room for horses in need of homes. http://www.happy-hooves-horse-rescue.org/
Please add 4R Animal Shelter to Maine. A licenced shelter and 501.c.3 organization. PayPal donations to info@4ranimalshelter.org. also on Facebook and web site http://www.4ranimalshelter.org. Thank you
There is no way to add a rescue. Message link did not work.
Great list.
WHERE ARE WE??? http://www.southjerseyhorserescue.org SIX years and going strong.
Idaho: Wild Love Preserve has permanently rescued over 134 wild horses from the BLM, government and slaughter. They are privately funded by donors and grants, and have saved taxpayers over 7 million dollars since 2013. Please include in your list. WLP is a registered nonprofit and they’ve been active in Idaho since 2010.
You need to add to your list: Beech Brook Rescue Farm in Mystic, CT. My husband and I have worked there for several years and did a show on their work on Comcast TV in Groton.
when ARE THE GROUPS GOING TO COMBINE FORCES AND GET SOME EFFECTIVE LEGISLATION PASSED THAT COULD HIEGHTEN AWARENESS OF THE ABUSE AND NEGLECT SITUATION ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY?!?!?!?!
PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED SO THAT I CAN HELP IN THIS MATTER.
Come visit the new kids on the block, High Hope Rescue! We’re doing great things in Colorado and growing quickly! Check us out at http://www.HighHopeRescue.com and on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/HHRRescue for updates on our recent rescue of FIFTEEN foals from the auction house!
Thank you for your Horse Rescue work. You are doing a great job. By Gregg L. Friedman MD
Oregon has some amazing horse rescues, Sound Equine Options, Strawberry Mountain Mustangs, Harmony New Beginnings Animal Rescue to name a few
