One of the ways Americans celebrate the commencement of the holiday season is by watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The downtown NYC parade attracts literally millions of spectators to view the floats, balloons, celebrities and performance groups who populate the parade. Millions more watch the broadcast live on TV where they also get the benefit of color commentary (but why does a parade need commentary?)

However, Macy’s falls woefully short in the equestrian department. Sure, occasionally a drill team will be invited, or the Budweiser Clydesdales will make an appearance, but in general, it’s just not that kind of parade. Too bad for them. In this week’s video, enjoy a lovely, peaceful highlights reel from the 2011 California Rodeo parade in Salinas, California. Sure, it’s not quite as flashy as the one in New York, but wouldn’t you rather enjoy a variety of beautiful equines—and not a single word of commentary.

By the way, make sure you check out the parade’s non-equine entry at around 3:00.

  1. Now that’s my idea of a parade! I live close to the Macy’s parade of NY and would much rather see this parade anyday. I love my horse’s, especially them golden palomino’s! Thanks for sharing with us! PS, heard them donkeys in the background, love them too! Have standard donkey on my farm also.
